Im Jo a wife mother and owner of boho boarding 4 dogs.

I have loved dogs ever since I can remember, there’s a family joke “dog was my first word. As most of my friends books about toys and girly things I was reading books about dog breeds etc.

I didn’t get my first dog until I was 14 and we rescued Max, a black lab. Who we had until I was 26. I then got Molly a French cross British Bulldog.

For me art and animals have always been intrinsically woven into my life. Being an only child I found friendship and comfort in my pets. I attended university in London doing a degree in Textile and Surface Decoration, and I loved it but I also felt like I was missing something. So I enrolled into agriculture collage, where I enrolled in Animal communication and husbandry (fun fact I can turn a sheep ready for shearing) I also enrolled in Dog Grooming and passed my city and guilds level 1 and 2. I left agricultural collage  with a triple distinction. I left and started working in various animals jobs from Notcuts Pet Center to grooming.

In 2005 I decided I wanted to start my own business and that’s when I started PAWtesbery Pets, a dog walking and small pet boarding service. I was one of the first dog walkers in my area which I am incredibly proud of still to this day. In 2010 while my dog walking and pet boarding was doing well i decided to open a bricks and mortar shop specialising in high end pet feeds, accessories dog grooming. I met some incredible people along the way who I still call friends 20 years on.

In 2012 I had my first son, and as soon as he was old enough to go to nursery I went back to dog walking part time. I loved it. In 2016 I had my second son and decided that I was going to step away and concentrate on my family. 9 years on and both my boys are in school I decided to embark (pun alert) on a new venture but one I had always wanted to do. Now I’m in that position to offer dog boarding.

I lost my soul dog, Stan in April 2025, who was nearly 16 years old. Stan was a whippet who was incredible anxious and hated being left. He had gone through every life event with me, marriage, kids and walking beside me in every business I had. I was incredibly lucky to work along side him. And that’s another reason why I have decided to concentrate on 1-2-1 boarding, for all dogs but specifically for dogs who are anxious or nervous.

I was always worried about leaving Stan even with family members and friends so our holidays would nearly always include him (camping).

If you’re interested in what I have to offer for your dog please get in touch.
